What it is

The Ink is an independent bookstore and publishing house operating under our imprint, K.J.A & Z.J.O Press Studio.

It exists because of a problem our founder ran into as an author: the dominant self-publishing platforms take a large share of the sale, dictate how a book can be laid out, own the relationship with the reader, and can change the terms whenever they choose. An author who wants a book to look a particular way, or to sell it directly to the people who follow her, has very few places to go.

So we built one.

The Ink sells books direct — no marketplace between the writer and the reader — with custom interior layouts rather than a template, and formats that suit how people actually read: digital editions, flipbook previews, print, and audio.

For readers

Read before you buy. Every title carries a free preview — the introduction, the table of contents, and the opening pages of the first chapter — so you can decide from the writing itself rather than a blurb.

Own it in the format you want. Digital editions, flipbook previews, print, and full-length audiobooks.

Membership access. Reader subscriptions open the catalogue and early releases at three levels of access.

For authors

The Ink is open to other writers, not only our own list.

Keep your rights and your layout. Upload a manuscript and we convert it into properly formatted digital, print-ready, and flipbook editions, with a purchase link generated for each.

Sell direct. Your book sits in a bookstore, not a search-ranked marketplace, and the sale runs through your own page.

Reviewed before release. Every submission goes through manual review before it goes live — the same standard the major retailers apply — so the catalogue stays something readers can trust.

Author membership runs monthly or annually.

Audiobooks

We produce full-length audiobooks in house, released in volumes rather than as a single file, so a long book arrives at a pace that suits it and costs less to start.

Titles are distributed through our own store and into the wider audiobook market.

The catalogue

Our founder writes across literary fiction, romance, and memoir-inspired work, including the zodiac-themed Love Language series. Titles are available through The Ink directly, with selected books also carried by Barnes & Noble and Amazon.

Where it's going

The Ink is being built into a full independent publishing platform: an open author programme, a growing audiobook catalogue, a mobile app, and eventually a virtual bookstore you can walk through rather than scroll.

The aim is straightforward. A place where a writer can publish a book properly, keep what they earn, and reach readers without asking permission from a platform that was never built for them.
